Anafranil
Anafranil is an antidepressant. It is used for treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder. OCD is characterized by reiterative thoughts or repetitive actions. Anafranil activates certain substances in the brain reducing the symptoms of OCD as persistent ideas, images or actions.
It is important that family of a person who takes Anafranil watch closely all possible changes in patient’s behavior. Antidepressants may increase suicidal thoughts in children and teenagers. If you notice anything alarming such as worsened depression or suicidal attempts, get medical help as soon as possible.
Some medications may interact with Anafranil and cause unwanted and even fatal consequences. You must never take this antidepressant with MAO inhibitors (Nardil and Parnate). Combination of mentioned medications may cause your death. The drug may also represent a threat for the health of people who has recently had a heart attack.
Do not take Anafranil if you have allergy to certain kind of medications, for example clomipramine. Talk to your healthcare provider to find out more about possible side effects and contraindications for this drug. Inform your doctor about your actual o planned pregnancy before you start taking Anafranil. It may have negative impact upon unborn baby’s health.
